Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) of the North Central Association's Higher Learning Commission
AQIPIn 2000, Capella became the first online institution to become a charter participant of AQIP, a program of the North Central Association's Higher Learning Commission in which institutions commit to a program of continuous quality improvement. Capella's accreditation was reaffirmed in 2008; its next scheduled accreditation reaffirmation process will be during the 2014–2015 academic year.
Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
CACREPCapella has earned CACREP accreditation for three master's programs in counseling: Mental Health Counseling; Marriage and Family Therapy; and School Counseling.

CHEA Award Capella University is the first online university to receive the CHEA award which was given based on four award criteria: articulation and evidence of outcomes; success with regard to outcomes; information to the public about outcomes; and use of outcomes for educational improvement.

Interactive Council, Inc.
IMA logo The Interactive Council, Inc, a non-profit organization of leading web designers, developers, programmers, advertisers and other web-related professionals, awarded "Best in Class" Interactive Media Awards to two Capella web sites. The Inside Capella site and the Learning and Career Outcomes site won two of the three Best in Class Interactive Media Awards for the "University" category in 2009.
